Stanley Kubrick Autograph Letter Signed Dissecting 2001
Stanley Kubrick (/ˈkuːbrɪk/; July 26, 1928 – March 7, 1999) was an American film director, producer, screenwriter, and photographer. He is frequently cited as one of the greatest filmmakers in cinematic history. His films, which are mostly adaptations of novels or short stories, cover a wide range of genres and are noted for their realism, dark humor, unique cinematography, extensive set designs, and evocative use of music.
Stanley Kubrick autograph letter signed, dated 10 August 1968. Here, the director writes to New York University physicist and personal friend, Jeremy Bernstein regarding “2001: A Space Odyssey”. Reads in full: “For someone who doesn’t really like the film your piece was very kind. The only bad mistake (in it) is that in the novel it was A.C.[‘s] intention that Starchild saved the world by detonating the orbital bombs. One can only presume he had a way of coping with the radio active debris and the heat. You will note that ending is not one that I subscribed to; principally for its implications. I hope you plan to stop off in London on your way back.” Signed “Stanley” in black ink. A.C. refers to Arthur Clarke, whom Kubrick collaborated with on the screenplay and whose novel inspired the movie. Letter on one page measures 7.25″ x 10.5″. Some wrinkling and folds throughout, very good. Sold for $3,000.
