Celebration Queen Victoria Coronation Document Signed
Victoria (Alexandrina Victoria; 24 May 1819 – 22 January 1901) was Queen of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland from 20 June 1837 until her death in 1901. Known as the Victorian era, her reign of 63 years and seven months was longer than any previous British monarch. It was a period of industrial, political, scientific, and military change within the United Kingdom, and was marked by a great expansion of the British Empire. In 1876, Parliament voted to grant her the additional title of Empress of India.
Invitation to the first anniversary celebration of Queen Victoria’s coronation, signed “Victoria R” as reigning monarch. Royal festivities were held in Westminster Abbey on 28 June 1838, one year after Victoria ascended the throne upon the death of William IV in 1837. Invitation is specially addressed to “Our dearly beloved Aunt / The Duchess of Gloucester” and reads in part, “…These are to will and require you to make your personal attendance…” Single-page invitation on card-style paper measures 7.75″ x 12.5″. Creasing, else fine in remarkably well-preserved condition. Invitations signed by the Queen herself are very rare. Sold for $2,282.
