Mark Hamill’s Screen-Worn Hero Pants in the Original 1977 ”Star Wars” as Luke Skywalker
Screen-worn ”hero” costume pants worn by Mark Hamill in his career-defining role as Luke Skywalker in the 1977 epic film ”Star Wars”, the first in the groundbreaking trilogy. As one of the top-grossing films of all time, George Lucas’ first film in the successful series won six Oscars, among many other awards. In a galaxy far, far away, Hamill donned these iconic pants as the Jedi Knight of all Jedi Knights, wearing the costume pants throughout much of the film. Sand-colored ”cotton drill” Levi’s pants are purposely distressed to display wear, with dirt to back right pocket and in spots to front of pant legs. In fact, in an accompanying article, Mark Hamill said of the pants, ”By the way, those pants I wore were just bleached Levi’s with the tag still in them.” Pants measure 29” waist x 37” in length with two 6” slits up each side. Customized by the famous London costumier, Bermans & Nathans, original tag sewn to inseam reads: ”Bermans & Nathans / 40 Camden St., / London N.W. 1” tag with a ”Mark Hamill / 10490 Luke / Star Wars” printed in type beneath it. Very good condition overall. Also with tags attached from both Christie’s, where the pants were originally auctioned, and Sotheby’s, from its 1998 auction. Sold for $60,000.
Luxurious pink terrycloth robe worn by Marilyn Monroe while she was in makeup for the filming of ”The Prince and the Showgirl” in 1957. She starred opposite Sir Laurence Olivier, who also directed and produced the film. The provenance is from Harry Jordan, set dresser on the film and personal dresser to Olivier. Heavy, square-collar robe lacks a tie, else fine. With a photo of Marilyn wearing the robe and provenance from Julien’s. Sold for $25,428.
Elaborate Judy Garland screen-worn costume from ”Presenting Lily Mars”. After a successful career as a child star and girl-next-door type, Garland had her coming-out as a Hollywood bombshell with this film, shot when she was 21. She starred here as the title character, a small-town girl who makes it to Broadway. Costume includes lace-trimmed white gown, floral-detailed corset, felt handbag, and lace bonnet. Heavy gown features an off-white upper with iridescent black skirt. Some strain and separation to seams and separation of iridescent threads near the hemline, else near fine. Corset is a reproduction, featuring black, purple, pale blue, yellow, rose, and green felt design with white sequins on an off-white background. Near fine. Cream felt handbag with floral felt cutout design is lined in purple felt. Near fine. Off-white bonnet ties with a satin ribbon and features felt floral adornments. Toning and some stray threads, with a detached floral piece, else near fine. A beautifully crafted costume from the evolution of a Hollywood legend. With a COA from the Gene London Costume Collection. Sold for $9,799.

Judy Garland Original Personal Costume
Original personal costume for Judy Garland, custom-made around the time she starred in the 1950 MGM musical, “Summer Stock”. Garland played “Jane Falbury” opposite Gene Kelly in the film, which was her last at MGM as her personal life continued to affect production. Black strapless gown with red sequins in flourishes has original handwritten wardrobe tag safety-pinned to gown and reads: “Judy Garland / (Hollywood — Summer Stock) / Black net gown w/ red net ruffle at neckline and tiny red sequins around waist and red sequin ball designs over entire dress”. A second tag safety-pinned reads, “7950 / Judy Garland / Hollywood Summer Stock / London” and a third tag is sewn to inseam of gown reading, “Judy Garland / Personal Wardrobe”. Bouffant gown measures 14″ x 48″ and is in near fine condition. With a Gene London Costume Collection COA. Sold for $1,200.

Scarce John Wayne Cowboy Hat Worn in Six Films That Defined The Iconic Actor’s Western Career
Incredibly rare and iconic cowboy hat worn by the legendary John Wayne in six major westerns. Wayne wore the hat in the 1961 film ”The Comancheros”, the 1963 film ”McClintock!”, the 1965 film ”The Sons of Katie Elder”, the 1966 film ”El Dorado”, and the 1969 film ”The Undefeated”. Camel-colored felt cowboy hat has ”John Wayne / ‘Comancheros”’ written in black marker to underneath of front brim, with an additional ”John Wayne” written in black marker to leather sweatband, as well as ”#3” written in green pen to leather. Hat’s brim measures 16” in length and is 5” tall. Inside measures 7” in diameter. Six little holes to brim. With provenance from the Collection of John Wayne, the Collection of Chuck Roberson (the actor’s stunt double), John Hagner’s Hollywood Stuntmen’s Hall of Fame, and Mecum Auctions, Santa Monica, CA, July 26-27, 2013, lot F168. Overall very good. Sold for $37,500.

Joan Crawford’s hero dress from her magnum opus, “Mildred Pierce”. Joan Crawford currently ranks in the American Film Institute’s top ten actresses in the history of cinema. Polka-dot dress is worn by Crawford in the film’s promotional posters, in a still captured from the scene in the beginning of the film when she goes on a date, set at the Malibu beach house of her scheming beau Monte Beragon. Rayon dress, originally white, has since been dyed to a flesh tone color, with polka dots in a darker nude shade. Design features a slightly A-line cut shirt, long sleeves, pleated bodice and square neckline flanked by a simple bow on either side. A Warner Bros. Pictures label is sewn into the placket and has a hand note, “B – 2nd Dress / 18905-638”. Written inside the top in black felt tip is the note, “TBS / 209”. Dress fastens up the back and at the waistline with alternating snaps and hook-and-eye closures, also found at the cuffs. Discreet side zipper is placed over the hip. Likely altered for use in a later Warner Brothers film, dress measures 17.75″ from underarm to underarm, with 21″ sleeve and a petite 11″ across the waist. Original self-belt is absent; dress is accompanied by later grosgrain belt in brown with a cream stripe through the center. Scattered pinholes and stray threads, else near fine. A stunning piece worn by Crawford in her triumphant comeback role, where she delivered what is considered one of the Best Actress performances of all time. Provenance from Warner Brothers. Sold for $24,500.
Shirley Temple Screen-Worn Heart Dress From 1938 Film ”Just Around the Corner”
Shirley Temple screen-worn heart dress, worn as ”Penny” in the 1938 film ”Just Around the Corner”. Designed by Gwen Wakeling, the blue wool dress is pleated and has three hearts on the chest. Attached is a matching short sleeve silk blouse with a leaf and heart design and two prominent red hearts on the collar. Dress has two straps per shoulder and an adjustable belt in back. Measures 12” across the shoulders with 4” sleeves and 26” overall length. Comes with two vintage photographs of Shirley wearing the dress. Near fine condition. With a COA signed by the Shirley Temple estate. Sold for $15,625.
