Incredibly rare and large Disney cel from the beloved 1959 film, “Sleeping Beauty”. Cel depicts Prince Phillip and Princess Aurora, aka Briar Rose, as her name was changed to conceal her cursed identity, during the beginning of the film when the star-crossed lovers first meet in the “Once Upon a Dream” musical sequence. Characters are placed over a forest backdrop. Framed to an overall size of 13″ x 10″. With an official Disneyland sticker to verso reading, ”This is an original handpainted celluloid drawing actually used in a Walt Disney production.” Near fine. Sold for $7,464.

Disney Sleeping Beauty Cel Picturing the Villianess Maleficent & Her Pet Bird Diablo — The Last Fairy Tale Walt Disney Made During His Lifetime
Sleeping Beauty cel from the 1959 animated feature that is a classic and the last film Walt Disney ever made. The story is based on an old French fairy tale and centers on Princess Aurora’s struggle against the curse placed on her at birth by the evil Maleficent, pictured here. An icon of Disney villainry, Maleficent is considered the most treacherous character Walt Disney Pictures ever created. She is drawn here in all her glory with bright lips and nails and trademark glowing green eyes, her bird Diablo perched upon her black-cloaked shoulder. 9.5″ x 8″ celluloid is matted and framed to an overall size of 19.5″ x 16.5″. Official Disney sticker on back of mat reads in part, “This is an original handpainted celluloid drawing actually used in a Walt Disney production…copyright Walt Disney Productions”. Some discreet flaking to paint on black portion of the cel. Very good condition overall and quite stunning. Sold for $3,168.

Original Disney Sleeping Beauty Cel — Two-Cel Set-Up Depicts the Evil Maleficent in Dragon Form From the Finale of the Film
Disney two-cel Sleeping Beauty cel overlay from 1959. Cel is set against a greyish background, depicting the evil Maleficent transformed into a dragon at the finale of the film. She poses angrily, sharp teeth exposed, in a plume of signature green flames which are overlaid onto the dragon. Measures 7.75” x 6.25”, elegantly matted and framed in purple to an overall size of 14.5” x 13”. Verso has previous Christie’s tag. Very minor cracking in two spots on dragon’s neck and chest, though nearly indiscernible without magnification. Near fine. Sold for $2,813.

Incredibly rare and large Disney Sleeping Beauty cel from 1959. Cel features Princess Aurora, aka Briar Rose, as her name was changed to conceal her cursed identity during the beginning of the film. The Princess is depicted three separate times in the cel, the first posing seated, the second standing tall, and the third holding her basket outward. She wears her signature gown in each of the three depictions. Cel is matted against a tangerine and orange striped background and framed to an overall size of 18″ x 14″. Fine condition.
