Henry John Aguirre (January 31, 1931 – September 5, 1994) was notoriously one of the worst hitters in baseball of his era; often receiving standing ovations for fouls tips and contact. He batted a lifetime .085 during his 16-year career. Not surprisingly, Aguirre was a pitcher who utilized screwballs and fastballs to keep batters off balance. Though he pitched primarily out of the bullpen, he enjoyed his greatest success as a starter in 1962 as he led the American League with a 2.21 ERA in 42 games and 216.0 innings pitched. Hank pitched 16 years in the Majors for the Cleveland Indians (1955-1957), the Detroit Tigers (1958-1967), the Los Angeles Dodgers (1968) and the Chicago Cubs (1969-1970). He was named to the two 1962 MLB All-Star Games and earned attention with the AL MVP voting that season. In 447 games, Aguirre compiled a record of 75-72 with a 3.25 career ERA over 1,375.1 career innings. He also threw 44 complete games and nine shutouts.
