1909-11 T206 Christy Mathewson portrait card. The premiere pitcher of his era, New York Giant Mathewson won more than 20 games for 12 straight years, including winning 30 or more games for three consecutive seasons between 1903-05. In 1908, “Matty” won 37 games, a National League record that still stands. He was also well known for a screwball-type pitch referred to as a “fadeaway.” Issued by Piedmont tobacco company. Bright colors. Mild toning. PSA 5 condition. Scarce early baseball collectible. Sold for $3,375.

Babe Ruth Autograph & Lou Gehrig Autograph 5″ x 7″ Pre-1928 Photo in Yankee Pinstripes and Wearing Baseball Mitts
Babe Ruth autograph and Lou Gehrig signed photograph. 5″ x 7″ black and white image depicts the two Yankee greats standing side by side on the baseball field wearing their pinstripe pants. Inscribed by Ruth in brown ink at the upper left, “For Walter from, ‘Babe’ Ruth” beside which Gehrig signs in black ink, “& Lou Gehrig”. Small .25″ tear (with no emulsion loss) at top, not affecting either signature, else fine. A difficult to acquire pairing of legendary signatures on a single photograph. A Babe Ruth signature with the quotation marks around “Babe” typifies his pre-1928 autograph and will sell at a higher value as well. Sold for $19,036.

Christy Mathewson Autograph Book
Christy Mathewson autograph book of the book he authored, “Won in the Ninth.” New York: R.J. Bodmer Company: 1910. First edition presentation copy signed by Mathewson on a bookplate affixed to the interior cover. Copy is numbered 498 and presented to Robert Hughes; Mathewson signs below in dark ink. This fictional tale by the New York Giants pitcher also features a special instructional section on pitching technique. Illustrated hardcover with pine green cloth runs 298pp. Corners, edges and backstrip top and bottom show wear. Slight scuffing to cover image. Frontispiece tissue guard missing. Signature shows only slight smudging to the “C”. Binding remains tight. Overall very good condition. Very rare Christy Mathewson signed book. Sold for $9,768.
