Nap Lajoie was a second baseman in the MLB and played for the Philadelphia Phillies, Philadelphia Athletics and Cleveland Naps between 1896 and 1916. During his playing career he also was a player-manager for the Naps from 1905 through 1909. Lajoie was a remarkable hitter and in 1901 had a batting average of .4265, which still remains as the highest single season batting average in the American League. He was also a five-time American League batting champion as well as four-time league leader in hits. Lajoie retired from baseball in 1918 after briefly managing the Toronto Maple Leafs and Indianapolis Indians. His career statistics include a batting average of .339, 3,243 hits, 1,599 RBIs and 82 home runs. Lajoie was in the second group elected into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1937.
