Sell Your 1849 C $5 NGC MS60
The Numismatic Guaranty Corporation (NGC) is a third-party American company that authenticates, grades and encapsulates coins from across the globe, including ancient coins, medals and tokens. As one of the earliest independent coin grading services it was established in 1987 and became the official grading service of the American Numismatic Association in 1995. The NGC’s grading system utilizes the Sheldon scale ranging from 1 to 70, where a coin with a score of 70 in theory is worth 70 times more than one graded a 1. A coin is view by at least two graders during their grading process. To minimize conflict of interest the NGC’s employees are not permitted to commercially buy or sell coins.
The Liberty Head or Coronet Head half eagle coin was designed in 1839 by Christian Gobrecht. They actually had different metal compositions depending on the mint they originated from. Those from the Philadelphia Mint were .900 gold / .100 copper while those originating from the Charlotte or Dahlonega Mints contained up to five percent silver giving them a unique “green gold” hue.
